For animal feed pellet mill, in general, raw materials need to be pulverized below 5mm. In actual operation, however, materials are qualified to feed into the mill as long as their size is smaller than the holes’ diameter of die.
For example, if a pig farmer needs to use a die with holes diameter of 5mm, the size of raw materials after crushing shall be smaller than that of the die, which means that the particle size of the raw material after pulverization needs to be less than 5 mm. Some buyers may want to ask that need I always obey these rules? Well, we recommend you do so, but some materials can be exceptional, like cornstalks, whose size can be a little larger because they are soft after being crushed.
For wood pellet mill, material size is very important as it directly affects the energy consumption, accessory wear rate, and granulation quality of the biomass pellet machine. Therefore, reasonable raw material particle size is very important for improving the production efficiency of biomass pellet machine.
Wood Pellet Coming Through Pellet Mill Die
When pelletizing biomass materials, the smaller the particle size of the raw materials, the easier they are to fill and insert with each other. Smaller material size means lower average energy consumption, slower die and roller wear, and higher water resistance and hardness of granules. However, blindly reducing the material size will increase the energy consumption at the crushing phase, so the material size should be made as large as possible while satisfying the processing requirements of the pellet mill. In fact, the ability to press large-diameter raw materials is one of the advantages of flat die machines. Generally, for raw materials such as crop straws, the maximum feed size requirement is less than 2×2×30 mm, while for wood raw materials, the feed size should be less than ¢12×40mm.
