There are two types of pellet mills in the market, ring die pellet mill and flat die pellet mill. Ring die pellet mills are often used for making biomass pellets. Flat die pellet mills are often used for making poultry feed.
Generally, flat die pellet mill can be divided into two types, the rotating die type, and the rotating roller type. With different rollers and dies, they have different characters and usages.
Flat die pellet mills
Most of the rotating die type is used for animal feed granulating, while the rotating roller type is mainly used for bio-feed granulating. The rotating die type is suitable for starters because it is often cheaper than the rotating roller type pellet mill. The rotating roller type is suitable for clients who have strict requirements and a flexible budget. Both of them are competent in making quality pellets.
The rotating roller type has a wider application. When it works, the rollers will spin by the diesel engine, electric engine, or gasoline engine to force the power through the die holes. In this way, pellets will be made. The rotating rollers contribute to pressing materials, driving materials movement and promoting the stirring of the materials. And the rollers are able to withstand the reaction force of hardwood. Therefore the roller-driven design has better adaptability for different materials and gets longer service life. What’s more, its production pellets often have high hardness, high density, good durability, and smooth appearance, good for storage and transportation.
Working principle of rotating roller type pellet mill
The rotating die type is a regular design. It has a smaller application and usually do not used for pelletizing wood biomass. When it works, the flat die rotates and presses rollers to move at the same time. Under this kind of composite motion, the materials can go into the compression area sufficiently and it is conducive to make feed pellets. The advantages of this design are low electricity consumption and high efficiency in making feed pellets. This type of pellet mill often used for process corn, bean dregs, straw, grass, and rice hull powder. For different sizes of pellets, you just need to replace flat die with different diameters of die holes. What’s more, its production pellets often have moderate hardness, density, and reasonable durability, qualified enough for storage and transportation.
